Figure Sculpting with Clay

For this activity you will need:

Sculpty different Colors
Wooden Skewers
exacto knife or other sharp knife
cookie sheet
oven
freezer

For group instruction place all 3 colors in each Ziploc bag and distribute 1 bag to each student.

Practice blending colors. You will rip the clay apart and kneed it to make new colors. Talk about the colors as you are blending. Have the kids guess what color you are making. Say "I am mixing blue and yellow, what color will this make?" Do this with blue and red, and red and yellow to make green, purple and orange. Now you have a rainbow of colors to work with.

Make a head. Then make a body. Practice rolling the clay into a ball with two hands. Use one hand to roll out a snake. Stick your finger in one end to make a mouth. Be creative! You can pinch the head on one end and then create a hole in the body. Fit the head into the body and smooth over until that they are joined together securely. Pinch out legs and a tail and form the feet with tiny pinches. Roll out tiny eyes, and teeth out of a different color clay.
